For those of you who already have been my readers, this is a version 2.0 but for everyone who's new here, a big hello and welcome to my happy place! My name is Ashrrita, and I love food. By loving food I not only mean loving to eat, but it's almost a poetic relationship. I like to believe that I am in love with the process of a simple ingredient being transformed into something so beautiful using some wonderful techniques, old and new, from, basic to utterly complicated. I love that cooking is just like life, it can be temperamental, it can be rewarding, and sometimes it can be very, very confusing.
Well, I've got a lifetime to talk about food but here's a little bit about me and the story behind this space. I started this blog Caramel Wings on January 6th, 2011, as nothing but a journal for me to remember the recipes that I found interesting. Lazy as I was, and as addicted to the Internet as I was, I thought having a food blog would be perfect for me. Little did I know that over the years it would grow into something so big and beautiful, and I would meet so many people sharing the same passion along the way! I've had my share of good, bad and ugly over the years during my blogging journey. Eventually, I felt overwhelmed. I stopped writing and just took a step back.
On many occasions I'd revisit my page and read what I wrote. I would reminisce and feel nostalgic. I would miss writing but be at a loss of words when I did think of writing something. I lost the will to cook and bake, while other things in my life took priority. It was only recently that I was showing my blog to someone that I was made to realize how far I've come as a cook, as a baker, as a teacher and as a human being. I think it was the right time for me to revamp my happy place and revisit it with a new perspective and so many more stories to tell. It's the least I can do, for something that has been a witness to my life.
I started this blog as an average 20- something who was full of ideas and was willing to experiment but had no resources to do so. I am now a 30-something girl who has all the resources but still the same sense of wonder, albeit with a better understanding of the basics. I like to think that as I've grown in age, my palate has also developed in the most amazing way. 8 years ago, I was playing with new ingredients but today I do have a story to tell based on my preferences and also the preferences of my loved ones. I love routine, so I can do the same thing every day at the same time and not get tired. I detest change, but I have been learning to embrace the fact that change can be beautiful with the right perspective. I am either a couch potato or working overtime, and I hope I am able to find my balance in the years to come!
All in all, life's been a beautiful journey. I've loved and lost, I've learned and perfected, I've believed and manifested, and savoured every bit of it. I am very excited to share my life and my experiences in the kitchen (and out of it) with all of you!
Okay, enough about me. Tell me about you! I would love to know more about my readers. Please drop a comment in the section below and I will be sure to read it 🙂
